How will the Daily News's 50% layoffs impact the paper?
Like all tabloids across the spectrum it tends to go for bold headlines rather than calm facts, and (partially in response to the conservative polemics of its crosstown rival, the Daily news Post) it has in recent years developed a more liberal voice that (like the Post) reaches into the Daily News Online. It also have on crusades (such as against the present mayor and current president) that are probably not helpful in maintaining a reputation for objectivity.
But that said, it is absolutely legitimate news source, and I read it (along with the Post and Times) cover to cover every day. Besides, they’re the only Daily News Online paper with comics!
The Daily News Post still is a pretty good read. As the loyal News readership starts to become disillusioned with less original writing and more wire copy they will defect to the Post.
These cuts may kill the print edition within a year. And Lord knows there’s no money to be made Daily News online.
